    The role of the predator syrphid, Episyrphus balteatus in regulating the field population of the mustard aphid, Lipaphis erysimi (Kalt.) was studied for two subsequent crop-seasons during 2008 – 2010 on cabbage, Brassica oleracea var. capitata. The numerical density of the predator was recorded to increase in response to density of the aphid prey in the field. The correlation analysis showed significant positive correlationship between the predator and prey species i.e. L. erysimi, whereas temperature, relative humidity, rainfall and wind speed correlated negatively with the aphid density in the ecosystem

    Towards applying FCM with DBSCAN for Detecting DDoS Attack in Cloud Infrastructure to Improve Data Transmission Rate

    Cloud is a pay-to-use technology which can be used to offer IT resources instead of buying computer hardware. It is time saving and cheaper technology. This paper analyzes the DDoS attack on cloud infrastructure and can be detected by using FCM with DBSCAN hybrid algorithm that classifies the clusters of data packets and detects the outlier in that particular data packet. The experimental outcome shows that the enhanced hybrid approach has better results in detecting the DDoS attack. The DDoS attack targets the main host of the cloud infrastructure by sending unwanted packets. This attack is a major threat to the network security. The FCM with DBSCAN hybrid approach detects outliers and also assigns one specific data point in clusters to detect DDoS attack in cloud infrastructure. By using this hybrid approach the data can be grouped as clusters and the data beyond the noise level can also be detected. This algorithm helps in identifying the data that are vulnerable to DDoS attack. This detection helps in improving the data transmission rate

    Multi-echo investigations of positive and negative CBF and concomitant BOLD changes: Positive and negative CBF and BOLD changes

    Unlike the positive blood oxygenation level-dependent (BOLD) response (PBR), commonly taken as an indication of an ‘activated’ brain region, the physiological origin of negative BOLD signal changes (i.e. a negative BOLD response, NBR), also referred to as ‘deactivation’ is still being debated. In this work, an attempt was made to gain a better understanding of the underlying mechanism by obtaining a comprehensive measure of the contributing cerebral blood flow (CBF) and its relationship to the NBR in the human visual cortex, in comparison to a simultaneously induced PBR in surrounding visual regions. To overcome the low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of CBF measurements, a newly developed multi-echo version of a center-out echo planar-imaging (EPI) readout was employed with pseudo-continuous arterial spin labeling (pCASL). It achieved very short echo and inter-echo times and facilitated a simultaneous detection of functional CBF and BOLD changes at 3 T with improved sensitivity. Evaluations of the absolute and relative changes of CBF and the effective transverse relaxation rate, , the coupling ratios, and their dependence on CBF at rest, , indicated differences between activated and deactivated regions. Analysis of the shape of the respective functional responses also revealed faster negative responses with more pronounced post-stimulus transients. Resulting differences in the flow-metabolism coupling ratios were further examined for potential distinctions in the underlying neuronal contributions

    Observation-based 3-D view of aerosol radiative properties over Indian Continental Tropical Convergence Zone: Implications to regional climate

    Spatial vertical distributions of aerosol radiative properties over Indian Continental Tropical Convergence Zone (CTCZ) up to 6 km altitude during the pre-monsoon monsoon seasons of 2008 have been measured reported for the first time. Inter-seasonal intra-seasonal comparisons of different aerosol properties below above the boundary layer are carried out in among different regions of CTCZ. During pre-monsoon, aerosol layers were found to be present up to altitude as high as 6 km over the Indo-Gangetic Plains Himalayan foothills. A large increase in absorption coefficients (by two to five times) near the Himalayan foothills coastal India than the background values may be attributed to extensive biomass burning as supported by fire counts data. During monsoon, the aerosols were mostly confined to lower troposphere. However, absorbing aerosols were found to rebuild much faster than scattering aerosols after rains. Heating rates were very high over urban city of Bareilly peaking around 2 km during the pre-monsoon. The HR values over urban Kanpur during monsoon were comparable to Bareilly during pre-monsoon. Negligible latitudinal gradient of heating rate from the Himalayan foothill to central India was observed during both the seasons

    Serum acid phosphatase level - is it a marker for diagnosis of malaria

    Background: Malaria is endemic throughout most of the tropics. Technically, detection of malaria parasite may be missed due to low parasite density at sampling time and poor blood film preparation. The study was aimed to evaluate the serum acid phosphatase levels as a possible diagnostic marker for malarial infections.Methods: This study was conducted on a total of 100 subjects (40 malaria cases, 30 non-malarial cases and 30 sex and age matched healthy controls attending the department of medicine, PESIMSR, Kuppam. Venous blood sample was collected and serum acid phosphatase (ACP) level estimation was be done by enzymatic method using commercial kit (Raichem diagnostics kit).Results: Serum ACP level was highly significantly elevated in malarial group (Mean±SD) (3.14±1.22) when compared with control (1.33±0.72) and non-malarial (1.81±0.30) groups (P value <0.001.).Conclusions: In this study, there was a significant increase in the serum ACP levels in malarial patients as compared to other groups. This suggests that serum ACP levels can be used as a marker for malaria.

    In the single j shell there is a two to one relationship between the spectra of certain even-even and neighbouring odd mass nuclei e.g. the calculated energy levels of J=0^+ states in ^{44}Ti are at twice the energies of corresponding levels in ^{43}Ti(^{43}Sc) with J=j=7/2. Here an approximate extension of the relationship is made by adopting a truncated seniority scheme i.e. for ^{46}Ti and ^{45}Sc we get the relationship if we do not allow the seniority v=4 states to mix with the v=0 and v=2 states. Better than that, we get very close to the two to one relationship if seniority v=4 states are admixed perturbatively.
